What It Takes to Exercise Your Intuition

Do you know why people always say that you should follow your heart or go with your gut? That’s because, more often than not, your intuition is almost always right. Indeed, your heart’s compass can be a powerful guide to fulfilling your true purpose.

That said, sometimes you may still feel apprehensive about making a decision because you doubt yourself or tend to listen to your inner critic. Fortunately, there are many ways to overcome this. For instance, you can work with a personal development coach to help discover your inner voice. There are also other exercises that you can try, such as the following:

Opening Yourself Up to Direct Intuition

First, find a quiet place where you can relax. Take a few deep breaths until you feel like your mind has begun to settle down. Then, think about an event or situation that you would like more clarity on. Focus intently on that event for a few minutes and tell yourself that you would like a direct intuitive experience from yourself in the future. Afterward, let those thoughts go.

Clearing your mind and focusing on what you need the most guidance on can allow your intuition to come to you at the right time. After all, you can’t listen to your inner voice if you don’t know what you need from it, to begin with.

Strengthening Your Intuitive Body

Developing your intuition can also be an immersive experience. If you learn best with a hands-on approach, you may just benefit from enrolling in life coaching programs. That said, you can do this on your own, too.

All you have to do is go for a drive or a stroll without any particular destination in mind. Let your mind wander as you do this. Resist the first few ideas that come into your mind about what you can do. Then, wait until you get an idea that makes you feel an inner calmness. Once you’ve figured it out, act on that idea.

Truly, you can only come to the correct and intuitive decision when you allow yourself a moment of quiet. You’ll know it to be the right thing to do; you’ll just need to make your body receptive to the notion. Once you come up with an idea that makes you feel at peace with yourself, go and do that.

Thinking Less and Feeling More

When making a decision, we often suppress our emotions because we believe that how we feel will cloud our judgment. Unfortunately, there are times when the logical decision is not the best one to make. Sometimes, letting go of logic to honor your emotions is the best way to exercise your intuition.

The next time you find yourself having to make a difficult choice, listen to the first thing that comes to mind instead of overthinking it. Remember that the way you feel is valid in that your emotions provide you with more information about the situation at hand. Given this, it’s worth paying attention to what your heart and body are telling you. By doing so, you’ll know if any particular decision feels right to you.

Learning to Identify Patterns

The good news about your intuition is that it’s quite predictable if you know what patterns to look for. Hence, it’s simply a matter of figuring out what sequence of events triggers your intuition. That way, you can more easily pay attention to what your inner voice is trying to tell you.

To do this, you’ll need to become more observant about your behaviors in your daily life. For instance, do you feel a particular pull or resistance when encountering a specific type of problem? Do you notice yourself asking the same set of questions whenever you’re faced with an important decision to make? If so, take note of these moments.

Practice doing this as often as possible and record your observations. Write down the trigger, your behavior, what happens when you follow your intuition, and what happens when you don’t. This exercise will help you better anticipate and trust your inner voice, as you’ll get a better feel for when it’s going to emerge.

These days, many people feel lost and confused about the path that they’re taking in their lives. More often than not, they end up relying on other people to provide them with the right directions to follow.

But perhaps a more effective way of finding purpose and meaning in your life is to look inside of yourself. Your life experiences have had a hand in informing your perspective when it comes to resolving all sorts of conflicts. An expert such as a life skills coach can guide you and offer advice, but the outcome is ultimately determined by your choices.

At the end of the day, you are the one making the final decision when it comes to what you want to do. Hence, it pays to learn how to listen to your inner voice. By trusting yourself to make the right decisions, you can live authentically and purposefully without fear.
